Bakuchiol Oil for Men: What It Does and How to Use It

Prime Shift LOOK Night Facial Oil with bakuchiol and botanical oils in a warm bathroom setting

Bakuchiol is one of the ingredients behind Prime Shift LOOK Night Facial Oil. Here is what it is, what the human research suggests, and how to make it part of a straightforward evening routine.

At the end of a busy day, a skincare routine needs to be something you can actually repeat. A few deliberate steps can be easier to stick with than a bathroom shelf full of products you rarely use.

If you are looking into a bakuchiol oil for men, start with two questions: what does the ingredient do, and how does the finished product fit into your routine?

What is bakuchiol?

Bakuchiol is a plant-derived ingredient used in cosmetic skincare. It is often described as a retinol alternative because researchers have investigated some similar visible skin-ageing concerns, including the appearance of wrinkles and uneven pigmentation.

It is a different compound from retinol. The phrase “retinol alternative” describes why people might consider it; it does not mean that the two ingredients are interchangeable or that every product delivers the same results.

What does the research actually show?

A 2019 randomised, double-blind study followed 44 participants for 12 weeks. It compared a 0.5% bakuchiol cream applied twice daily with a 0.5% retinol cream applied once daily. Both groups showed improvements in wrinkle surface area and hyperpigmentation, with no statistically significant difference between the groups. People using retinol reported more scaling and stinging.[1]

That is encouraging, but a small, short study with different application frequencies does not establish that all bakuchiol and retinol products are equivalent.

A further study published in 2026 compared a 0.5% bakuchiol formulation with its vehicle, without bakuchiol, over 84 days. It enrolled 73 Chinese adults and reported improvements in several assessed signs of photoageing. The study was predominantly female and involved the ingredient supplier, so it should not be treated as definitive evidence specifically for men.[2]

These studies tested their own formulations, not Prime Shift Night Facial Oil. Their concentrations and results should not be read as the concentration or a performance promise for our oil.

Meet Prime Shift LOOK Night Facial Oil

Our 30 ml Night Facial Oil combines bakuchiol with botanical oils, including rosehip seed oil. It is designed as an evening facial-oil step for men who want dry or dull-looking skin to feel nourished and velvety.

The appeal is a simple place in your routine: cleanse, care for the eye area if you use an eye cream, then apply your facial oil. You can choose the oil individually or as part of the LOOK Night System.

How to use bakuchiol facial oil in your evening routine

  1. Cleanse. Use Daily Cleanser, rinse and gently dry your skin.
  2. Care for the eye area. If using Peptide Eye Cream, apply it as directed.
  3. Apply the oil. Massage a few drops of Night Facial Oil gently into clean, dry skin on your face and neck. Avoid direct contact with your eyes.
  4. Keep it repeatable. Choose a regular evening moment that fits your day, and follow the product label rather than copying the application schedule of a research trial.

Check the full ingredient list on your product, especially if there is an ingredient you need to avoid. Stop using it if irritation occurs. “Plant-derived” does not mean that every skin type will tolerate a formula.

Bakuchiol oil: common questions

Is bakuchiol the same as retinol?

No. They are different ingredients. Bakuchiol has been studied for some similar cosmetic concerns, but it is worth judging the evidence and directions for the particular formula you choose.

Does the research mean I will see a change overnight?

No. The studies discussed here assessed changes over approximately 12 weeks. They do not establish a timescale for this oil or guarantee an individual result.

Do I need to buy the whole Night System?

No. Night Facial Oil is available individually. The Night System brings the cleanser, eye cream and facial oil together if you prefer a ready-made routine.

Are Eye Reset Patches included?

Eye Reset Patches are a separate product. They are not included in the Night System.
